The County Attorney plays a vital role in the County’s Administration. The County Attorney is the legal advisor to the Board of Commissioners, the Lincoln County Sheriff, and the Register of Deeds. The County Attorney also advises the County Manager and all County department heads on the day-to-day business of the County.
The duties of the County Attorney’s Office include but are not limited to the review of all written contracts and commitments of the County, the interpretation and drafting of county policies and ordinances, and the interpretation of state and federal laws regulating the business of the County. The County Attorney is responsible for legal representation of the County, its elected officials or employees in any litigation brought by or against the County. The County Attorney is also expected to stay abreast of trends, updates and developments within the laws governing the County.
The County Attorney’s Office does not represent private citizens in criminal cases (including traffic citations), civil cases, estate matters or small claim matters, and does not provide legal advice to citizens or residents of Lincoln County.
