[ARCHIVED] Update on Indian Creek and South Fork Catawba River Contaminant

County Seal

(Lincolnton) Lincoln County Emergency Management has located the source of the leaked material into Indian Creek and the South Fork Catawba River.

The contaminant was determined to be animal excrement that breached the containment reservoir on a nearby farm. The amount of spillage is unknown at this time and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is still investigating the incident. The water activity advisory issued by the Lincoln County Health Director remains in effect until water samples meet safe water activity standards.
