The Lincoln County Health Director issued a Water Activity Advisory at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 15, 2026, due to approximately 50 gallons of untreated sewage that may have leaked into an unnamed tributary of Forney Creek at 4250 Millstream Road, Denver.
The spill was caused by a clog in the manhole at 4250 Millstream Road. As a preventative measure, the Health Director is advising all residents that this area may be contaminated with fecal coliform. Residents are advised not to engage in water activities that involve having bodily contact with the water in this area. The Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is taking water samples and putting out signs. Results will be forwarded to the County Public Utilities Department who will notify the Health Department. The public can resume water activities in this area when samples indicate fecal coliform counts are at an acceptable risk level per state guidelines from the NC Department of Environmental Quality. The clog in the manhole was caused by grease build up in the sewer line. The Lincoln County Public Utilities Department would like to remind the community to properly dispose of fats, oils and grease to help prevent clogs. Please visit Lincoln County Public Utilities fact sheet for best management practices for Fats, Oils and Grease.
