On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources created America 250 NC to help coordinate this multi-year commemoration and encourage the development of County Committees to observe and honor important historical sites, people, and historical events in their counties. These commemorations will not only focus on the American Revolution in North Carolina, but will also explore concepts in other time periods including themes of democracy, freedom, civic responsibility, and overcoming struggles or challenges throughout our shared history.
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners signed a resolution to recognize and approve the formation of an official Lincoln County 250 Committee that is affiliated with America 250 NC. Since then the Lincoln County 250 Committee applied for and was awarded a $10,000.00 grant. This nonpartisan Committee will be publicizing the upcoming 250th Anniversary; promoting local history sites, events and organizations. The Lincoln County 250 Committee also hopes to inspire our citizens to learn about the varied, unique, and interesting history of Lincoln County and the common ground we share.
